Description
A new addition to the MannKrafted Customs line the 044 offers a mallet in a variety of options. Here is a quick word from LaMont describing the inspiration and some of the options for the 044 model.
I have been fortunate enough to become friends with Chris Kamin, a former PGA/Nationwide professional who is working his game back into shape. We have crafted a few putters in recent months to try to get him back to full confidence and I think that this last one might be just the ticket.
It is 100% hand milled, hand turned neck and all the goodies. Swing weight is at 346 grams and she hangs at around 4:30. It was a great pleasure to have him right there while the final shaping was being done on the head and to get his input.
The ports you see on the sole were a final work to bring it down to the requested 345-346 gram weight. When I roughed out this head in its most basic shape, I was nearly 400 grams. The shoulders were much beefier, bumpers were a little thicker and the top line was much wider. These were all features planned to have room for adjustment and after meeting a few times with Chris Kamin, we made the grind adjustments, width and some other calls that all pooled together to get us much closer to our goal.
Once the neck was welded in place and we had the look we wanted, I locked it in and made the final runs in the sole to shave off about 15 grams to hit our number. Doing it by hand has its challenges compared to a computer aided milling, but in the end you can really dial it in. If someone was looking to add weight in the sole ports, it could be done as well providing another customization option. The "T" sight lines were very high on Chris' list of items to be included. I love them and feel they worked out perfectly.
About a week after Chris grabbed the putter from the shop I was notified that the 044 was going in the bag for the week's event in Virginia. I kept tabs on his rounds and after the four days, he had a total of 24 birdies and 2 eagles! Seeing that many birdies and a pair of eagles on the cards was awesome! Chris won recently on the eGolf Tour and put up some good numbers recently to keep the game improving.
